The back story
A pilot since 1994, a former Chief Pilot, and holding an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence and Instrument Rating, Lee has over 8,000 hours experience in various roles, including offshore, Medevac / Air Ambulance, heli-ski, forest fires, arial construction, film work and oil & gas support and exploration.
Lee is also a self-taught software engineer with experience in various programming languages, as well as software and database architecture. He got his start hacking Perl scripts on Linux for an internet provider. Following that, he worked as a consulting developer on various projects for customers such as A & W Canada and BC Gas where he designed and built enterprise software solutions. Eventually he launched his own integration company where he wrote custom software to help companies connect different systems together and create efficiencies.
In 2000 Lee joined national politics in Canada where he unsuccessfully challenged a sitting Cabinet Minister for a seat in the House of Commons. The campaign garnered a lot of local and national media attention and engendered grudging respect from his political opponents for his honesty and solid grasp of the issues. Lee’s strong oratory, public relations and communication skills and his solid experience dealing with the media has helped him in his leadership role on various boards and political campaigns.
In 2002 Lee moved into senior aviation management where he was responsible for all duties related to the management of flight operations and personnel and planning. Lee excelled in this position, went beyond the scope of his responsibilities, and created innovative processes and systems across company departments to increase efficiency.
In 2005 he went to live in Thailand where he trained as a Muay Thai fighter. He fell in love with Asia and has remained every since.
Most recently, prior to launching his start-up, he worked in Malaysia as an offshore helicopter pilot providing flights to oil & gas platforms for customers such as Shell and Petronas.
Since childhood, Lee has been a dreamer and implementor having launched all sorts of business ventures including a lawn care business, a DJ service, a software company, and a martini jazz lounge. Throughout these experiences he has acquired valuable skills in finance and accounting, management and human resources, and short & long-term planning. And through some failures, Lee has learnt what it takes to succeed.
A graduate of the Founder Institute, Lee lives in Kuala Lumpur where he continues to grow his company, FlightOffice.com
